July 2023 marked the 1st LGBTQIA+ Pride Parade in the city of Ovar, here in Portugal, and I’m truly thankful for the incredibly fun opportunity to illustrate not only the event poster but also the posters for the two crowdfunding parties that happened in the two months prior. My favorite part was to have the chance to play around with ocean themes and the imagery of Neptune, the mythological figure that plays a major role in the iconography of this coastal city.
It was also the perfect excuse to officially use Procreate, after a few timid test runs. It didn’t take long to fall in love with how versatile and intuitive the app is, even thou I’m still trying to overcome a mildy steep learning curve, caused by years working on Sketchbook Pro and GIMP. However, it isn’t hard to see the endless potential this software has and why so many artists got hooked on it. Perhaps it’s the kind of tool I need to, again, fall into the habit of digitally doodling stuff that isn’t pixel art.
